Cork Connect — Valheim Guide

Step 01

Buy & Install Valheim

Valheim is available on Steam for PC. If you already have it installed, skip ahead to Step 2.

Download & Install Steam

Steam is the platform Valheim runs on. If you don't have it, download the Steam installer from steampowered.com, run it, and create a free account.

Purchase Valheim on Steam

Click the button below to open Valheim's store page, then click Add to Cart and complete the checkout. It will appear in your Steam Library once purchased.

Install the Game

Open your Steam Library, find Valheim, and click Install. Steam will download and install the game automatically (~1 GB).

Once the install finishes, do not launch the game yet — we need to add the mods first.

Step 02

Install BepInEx & Mods

The Cork Connect server requires a mod pack to play. It's a single zip file — just download it and drop it into your game folder.

Find Your Valheim Game Folder

In Steam, right-click Valheim in your Library → Manage → Browse local files. A File Explorer window will open showing the game's installation directory.

The path is usually:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Valheim

Extract the Zip Into the Game Folder

Right-click the downloaded zip → Extract All (or use 7-Zip / WinRAR) and set the destination to your Valheim game folder. Overwrite all files when prompted.

When done correctly, you should see a BepInEx folder sitting alongside valheim.exe in the game directory.

Linux & Steam Deck — Extra Steps Linux · SteamOS

After copying the BepInEx files into your Valheim folder, a few extra steps are needed to let the game load them on Linux and Steam Deck.

Open a Terminal

On Steam Deck, switch to Desktop Mode (Steam button → Power → Switch to Desktop), then open Konsole from the taskbar or app launcher. On a standard Linux desktop, open your preferred terminal emulator.

Find Your Valheim Folder Path

In Steam, right-click Valheim in your Library → Manage → Browse local files. Your file manager will open at the Valheim folder. Copy the full path from the address bar — for example:

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Valheim/

Navigate to the Valheim Folder

In the terminal, type cd followed by a space, then paste the path you copied and press Enter:

cd "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Valheim/"

Make the BepInEx Script Executable

Run the following command to give the BepInEx launch script permission to execute:

chmod +x start_game_bepinex.sh

Set the Steam Launch Option

In Steam, right-click Valheim → Properties → General. In the Launch Options field, enter the following — replacing the path with your actual Valheim folder path:

./start_game_bepinex.sh %command%

This tells Steam to run the BepInEx wrapper script instead of the game directly. Close Properties and launch Valheim normally from your Library.

Step 03

Join the Server

The server is always on. Launch Valheim, enter the address below, and grab the password from Discord.

Start Valheim from your Steam Library. If the mods are installed correctly, you'll see a black BepInEx console window appear alongside the game — this is normal and means the mods are loading.

Select or Create a Character

On the main menu, click Start Game. Select an existing character or create a new one for the server.

Connect via IP

On the server selection screen, click Join Game → Join via IP and enter the address below.

Enter the Server Password

When prompted for a password, check the Cork Connect Discord server. The password is pinned in the #gamers-👾 channel.

Incompatible Game Version?

If you see an "Incompatible game version" error when trying to join, the mod pack has likely been updated. Re-download the zip from Step 2 and extract it into your game folder again to get the latest version.
